ASA is not about posting lists of coaches, never have been and never will, they don't do it for the coaches, they run them for the athletes. THE ATHLETES! The championship will go on whether a college coach comes or not. Good travel coaches get it!! Lists are like statistics (and we all know what they say about statistics). Every coach in the country could be there, but if they don't come watch your kids, what's the use?

Almost all ASA Nationals do not require or even ask coaches to sign up in advance. There will be tons of coaches at the 16u and 14u and their names will never be on any list.

Same thing for 18u GOLD. Almost every major program was represented at the Gold Nationals and yet, you won't see their name on any list.

You are probably pretty right Ty - but then why are they listed. Seems counter productive.

My reference was not to discredit ASA, if you knew anything about me you would know I am probably ASA's biggest cheerleader - have been for almost 20 years now. My point is and always will be this - Just like college softball coaches that don't change with the times, if ASA doesn't see what is happening around them and work to improve the product, they could lose those athletes they are serving.

Enough of the PGF kool-aid! Comparing PGF to ASA is Apples to Oranges. I think we have established that PGF is an INVITATIONAL showcase and is by no means a National Championship if one even exists. But the idea ASA should follow the lead of PGF, cater to college coaches and turn their National Championships into showcases? Maybe if the WCWS and the World Cup of Softball were played in Huntington Beach instead of OKC. But it is not, and I doubt it will be in our lifetime. ASA is huge organization that promotes the sport of softball on a national level.

PGF promotes Southern California softball and is an effort to retain focus and interest on softball in that area. Why, because the bright lights of California softball are flickering and beginning to fade. The talent pool in the east is getting better each year and the once dominate PAC 10/12 must now share the limelight with….. Easterners! First Michigan in 2005, and now SEC teams knocking on the door. What next an ACC team? So once a year they get together and 30 teams from Southern California play 30 teams from “somewhere else”. They invite a bunch of College Coaches and throw them a party on the beach. Are there great teams at PGF? Absolutely! Hand selected and invited for that reason.

I didnt realize Brad that all these coaches out here were on a beach vacation with a little softball thrown in. I guess they use this tourney as a get away. We will change our approach with communicating with them. Maybe a Hospitality Suite at our hotel or something. I'm printing flyers as soon as I can to hand out at our 4:00 with Corona Angels...unless they are all at the beach.

In reference to the $$$..I will have spent about the same as I did 6 years ago in Panama City....oops not fair to compare Beach City as well and yet another organization.

Good Luck to everyone whereever you are!

Gotta go just got word huge group of coaches down at the pier for the surf championship!

Cool Cool Cool Rolling Eyes

I don't think the coaches go there for the Beach at all. But I do think it is more of a showcase, ( and a good one at that), than a National Tournament. For pure National competion ASA is still where it is at. As far as showcasing your kids. I know for a fact every coach you saw at PGN's you will find in Atlanta or the Southern Force, and evan still Rising Stars, (if your on the right team Wink ). And I saw no shortage of coaches in the last 3 years at, 2 16U Nationals and 1 Gold National.

The hospitality suite at your hotel is a great idea. Maybe include a large screen LED with skills videos of players. It is true that the PGF cocktail party last Tuesday wasn't exactly on the beach. But the Newport Beach Hotel and Spa is a short drive from Balboa Peninsula. The Villa Suite is is great for entertaining at about $1,000 night but if you are on a budget you can get a Double with a view for about $300. Smile

The 2012 Spring/Summer will be a season of change for The Tampa HeatWave-Borak as we will play our most challenging schedule ever. Not only will we be moving to ASA 18U Gold we will also be playing Premier Girls Fastpitch (PGF), along with some exclusive, invite only College Showcase events.

Obviously all our plans as well as opinions change from weekend to weekend and month to month.

The original post of this tread didnt say that one was any better or worse than the other rather asking the Florida opinion if they felt the CA teams would travel to Clearwater and what they were planning on doing (As of this time Confused )

As far as being on the right or wrong team..that is a whole different discussion..people team swap quite a bit for the right as well as the wrong reasons..in the end I think if you do your homework and your daughter is talented enough it doesn't matter whose team you are on. Very Happy
